We all want clothes that flatter our figures, make us feel pretty and thin, and can wear to any occasion.
There are so many styles of dresses for a variety of occasions. But there is one dress that looks amazing on every woman's body. And we have Diane von Furstenberg to thank...the wrap dress.
This dress was her creation back in 1974 and has made her a fashion star and icon to this day.
The great news is you don't HAVE to buy an actual designer wrap dress. Due to the popularity and impact of this dress, other fashion shops have created replicas that you can buy for discounted prices but still look like a million dollars.
This style of dress doesn't require a lot of accessorizing to make it work for you. A pretty necklace and a great pair of shoes accentuate the dress that makes your waist seem small, your bust look attractive, and happily you can buy the dress with sleeves of various lengths (long, mid arm, short, cuffed, sleeveless).
There will be some with cap sleeves but that's not usually a good sleeve for mature arms.
The important thing to keep in mind with a wrap dress is to ensure that it fits you well.
You don't want the wrap to cross so low that your entire chest is on display to the world, unless that is a look you are planning on.
Make sure the waist hits you at your natural waist (not like this).
Plan on the occasional breeze or wind because that skirt will open wide.
And keep any prints in perspective (some large prints work...some do not). If you aren't sure how the print suits you, remember that solids are always safe.
If you don't own a pretty wrap dress, make this the year you buy one. You can even buy a faux wrap, because that look still works beautifully.
This dress is a major wardrobe staple for us. From the inception in 1974, to today, this dress doesn't go out of style and is always appropriate.
And keep this in mind as you pick your new wrap dress....
Until next week, I remain,
Stylistically yours,
Sooz
i have wrap skirts, but no wrap dresses... i'll simply have to find one somewhere!
